Curious about Reiki?

Updated: Feb 25, 2021

Not too sure about what Reiki involves? I've answered some of the questions I've been asked since becoming a Reiki Practitioner.

I’ve heard of Reiki, what does it mean?

Reiki is a Japanese word meaning ‘Universal life force energy’, the energy which flows through all living things and is vital to our well-being.

How does Reiki work?

When we are feeling in good health physically, emotionally and mentally we are living harmoniously, and our energy is balanced. However, if we are feeling unwell, there is stress or the pressures of life are having a negative impact our energy becomes depleted, causing imbalances which may lead to ill health and poor wellbeing.

So how does Reiki help?

Reiki balances our internal energy system, releasing the stress and tension, encouraging the body to self-heal, which as a result re-balances the body and leaves you feeling rejuvenated. A reiki treatment is deeply relaxing promoting better health and wellbeing.

What happens during a treatment?

You remain fully clothed, lie on my therapy couch and I place my hands lightly on or near your body in a series of non-intrusive positions. A treatment can last between 30 – 60 mins. It’s a complementary therapy that can be used in conjunction with conventional medication.

What might I feel?

Everyone is unique in how they respond, you may feel a sense energy moving within your body or absolutely nothing, some clients see colours, feel heat or cold. I’ve had clients laugh and cry…as this therapy helps to release and rebalance emotions all of the above are quite OK. I even have clients fall asleep, this is absolutely fine too. In fact, I take it as a compliment, it's not often we feel relaxed enough to fall asleep with complete strangers!

How will I feel afterwards?

Again, everyone is unique! From a personal perspective I feel a deep sense of relaxation, very calm and always sleep well.

There are times when a ‘healing response’ may occur, you may feel tired, possibly develop a headache, feel cold, tearful or nauseous, although it sounds quite negative it’s a good thing, the treatment is working, and the adjusting & self-healing are taking place. A healing response soon passes leaving you with an improved feeling of better health & wellbeing.

Prices start from £35
